My name is Tomiqua Perry (pronounced Ta-meeka). Everyone calls me Miq. When I was younger I used to despise the way my name is spelled. People would stumble and bumble over the pronunciation, often making me wonder what my mother was thinking when she came up with this little ditty. As I got older I began to appreciate the uniqueness of how my name is spelled, making the shortened nickname Miq, really stand out thanks to that Q. I am an artist, a poet, a mother, public speaker, blogger and co-host of the Three Queens & a King podcast and an all around entrepreneur.
I love creativity in all forms. I am a fierce advocate for the underdog, including myself! I spent 15 years of my life creating opportunities for the artist to eat off their God-given talent. It is my turn. I have something to say! Creating a platform that is a safe space for all people to share their experience regarding race, equality, white supremacy and systemic racism is the first step to open dialogue. Open dialogue encourages empathy which is the direct connection to understanding your neighbor’s plight. Once we break down these barriers, effective change will occur and solutions will be put into motion . I have been called as a vessel to create this platform. I am honored!
